Anyone feel that headliner was outperformed by the support act again?  Just because a band doesn't tour as frequnetly as others doesn't mean that they should headline and will put on a better show.  Last year Klaus was sick and this year Whitesnake lost the audience with too many solos.  In addition both bands suffered from bad mixes for their sets.  Both Tesla and Cinderella have earned the right to headline M3.  Am I off base in this?

I dont like to complain about the festival because I do not want to seem ungrateful for it!!!  However, you are absolutely correct.  Whitesnake, in my mind, was one of the weaker performances of the night.  I think several bands definitely outperformed them.  Granted I am not the biggest Coverdale fan in the world, but I think Bach, Tesla, Lita, and even Danger Danger had MUCH better showings.

I don't know.  I liked Whitesnake, and I'm not a huge 'snake fan.  I really like Tesla, but thought they played a few too many slow tunes (liked the new one...2nd Street???).

I've seen a lot of complaints about the long solos, and maybe that was a bit much, but every concert you go to (at least any rock/metal show) has guitar and drum solos by the headliner.

I was a little surprised that Whitesnake omitted some songs i expected to hear, but was glad they played some new stuff, too.

exactly. scorpions had a long guitar and drum solo. poison does it. winger does it. many others have long solo's.

btw danger danger was one of the best performances but the crowd certainly was not bigger for them than whitesnake

I thought Danger Danger was one of the better bands, too.  Ted Poley looked like he was having a great time on stage.  And then he actually left the stage and came into the crowd!  Plus he was out circulating afterwards.  Cool guy.

I thought Prety Boy Floyd, Faster Pussycat and Sabastian were the 3 best and also though Black n Blue were great too.  Side Stage ruled this year

Best bands:

Kix

Mr. Big

Warrant (Jani who?)

Tesla (though a poor setlist)

Black N Blue (a hugely pleasant surprise)

Danger Danger

Big Noize

Worst (in my opinion):

Pretty Boy Floyd

Whitesnake

Slaughter (thank god for Zoltan to keep them interesting)

I agree, I think just because they do not tour alot should not keep them from headlining. I would LOVE to see next years opening night be Faster Pussycat, Bang Tango, Pretty Boy Floyd and L.A. Guns.  I thought L.A. Guns and PBF gave it all they had and were EXCELLENT

Coverdale's voice is simply shot. It's too bad. But he's off key a lot and his upper register just sounds like hoarse screaming. Plus, a lengthy dual guitar solo followed by a new song that is cut in half by a lengthy drum solo is excruciating. My friend fell asleep during their set, another friend was texting and we all left before the encore. No Slide It In? No Slow And Easy? I love Whitesnake and thought they'd be a perfect headliner but M3 has no control over a band's setlist or vocal ability. They just underperformed, in my opinion.

Gotta keep KIX as teh opening night headliner.  That was the BEST!!!  Could change around the support bands for 1st night, though.

LA Guns was good but not as good as last year. Kix blew everyone away, as usual. Black N Blue was very impressive. Warrant souned great with their new singer. Tesla was great but their setlist was weak.

I love Whitesnake and I think they sucked!!! Like everyone has said a half hour of solos and new songs??? Gimme a break!! One encore!!! It looked like they just wanted to get out of there. Slaughter was the worst by far!!! I love Slaughter but they were awful!! The music was so loud, it drowned out the vocals. Sometimes I wondered if Sebastian Bach's microphone was even on. I thought Warrant was great. Same with Faster Pussycat. Not a huge fan of theirs but they had the crowd rocking. I also thought Firehouse did a great job. I'm from Niagara Falls, Canada and the trip was well worth it. Had a great time. Hopefully next year we'll see Cinderella!!!

I think the second stage ruled the day....

Much better vibe and every band brought their A game. Gary Cherone, Black N' Blue.

Fasterpussycat killed and had their set cut short. The same with LA Guns on Friday.

And I had no idea who Big Noise was. I was walking by and then I heard Joe start singing. That made my night, those guys blew the roof off the place.

I know it would be nice to NOT have Kix there but I know it will never happen since they are home town boys.
